This started out to be a page for Connecticut Blogs but, on the way, two things happened. I was asked to include information about a Clean-Up at Riverside Park and I found the new Book Barn website. Couldn't ignore either one of those.
Those of you who have already visited The Book Barn will know that this review from Connecticut Magazine is entirely true! “Book Binge: A bibliophile’s bliss awaits at the Book Barn in Niantic. No ordinary bookstore, this reader’s and collector’s heaven maintains over 350,000 volumes of gently used books, on almost any subject you can imagine. Old books to current bestsellers to new releases are housed between two sites – The Main Barn, which is made up of multiple buildings, and The Book Barn Downtown. At every turn, books are literally stacked from floor to ceiling, and friendly cats roam freely. The collection is not computerized, so if you can’t find a particular title, ask one of the helpful staff. This is definitely a place to browse, so be sure to set aside time to enjoy it."
You can't say that you've really lived until you've visited The Book Barn at least 20 times. And, even then, for a true bibliophile, that's simply not enough. In addition to the thousands of books, it's a little bit like visiting Grandpa's farm (use your imagination)-cats and dogs and goats and turtles and who knows what else! Cookies and donuts plus coffee, hot chocolate and iced tea. Bring your own picnic lunch, find a good book, sit down and plan to stay awhile.
